Sweet Annie (Artemisia annua), otherwise known as sweet wormwood or huang hua hao, is a highly aromatic annual herb native to Asia and is now widely cultivated in temperate climates around the world. Known for its florally bitter taste and aromatic fragrance, Sweet Annie has been utilised in traditional Eastern medicine and parts of Africa for centuries. Traditionally regarded as a tonic for the liver, helping to stimulate bile production and improve digestion, Sweet Annie also has a long-standing reputation for its immunomodulating capabilities, often employed in fever-reducing remedies or to support the body's response to infections and pathogens.

In modern herbalism, the resounding initial thought on Sweet Annie goes to its significant antimalarial activity, due to the presence several bioactive metabolites but particularly artemisinin, which has inspired pharmaceutical counterparts.
