Nettle (leaf) Spagyric Tincture

from $34.95

All of our herbal extracts use organically grown and/or ethically wildcrafted herbs and certified organic food-grade ethanol diluted to specific potencies in filtered and/or distilled rainwater, unless otherwise specified.

Nettle (Urtica dioica) is a hardy perennial of the Urticaceae family known for that characteristic sting when touching the fresh aerial portions of the plant due to its brittle, silica-tipped trichome heads which act like tiny hypodermic needles. When brushed, the brittle tips break off and the hair injects an irritating chemical cocktail (including histamine, serotonin, and acetylcholine) directly into your skin.

Famous since antiquity as both a food and medicine, nettles have the historic reputation as a herb of restoration capable of rebuilding strength, supporting healthy metabolism and promoting the elimination of accumulated waste products. The leaf contains a broad spectrum of nutrients including calcium, magnesium, potassium, silica, iron and trace minerals, together with chlorophyll, flavonoids, phenolic acids and polysaccharides. Rather than acting through a single dominant constituent, nettle’s traditional reputation arises from the synergistic combination of these compounds, providing both nutritive support and regulation of multiple physiological systems. Modern research has explored the influence of nettle on inflammatory pathways, metabolic regulation, urinary function and immune activity, complementing its historic role within traditional Western herbal medicine.

Traditionally regarded as a nourishing restorative and metabolic tonic, nettle has long been harnessed to strengthen individuals experiencing fatigue, debility or nutritional depletion while supporting healthy blood formation, connective tissue integrity and endocrine function. The aerial parts have also been valued for promoting healthy kidney function and fluid balance, encouraging the elimination of excess water and metabolic waste without significantly disturbing mineral balance.

Nettle’s affinity for the respiratory system has contributed to its traditional use in seasonal allergies and chronic catarrhal conditions, while its cooling and mildly astringent nature has made it an excellent herb for supporting skin health, maintaining capillary integrity and assisting recovery from chronic inflammatory states.

Throughout European folk medicine, both internally and externally, nettle has also been employed to stimulate local circulation and restore vitality to chronically stiff or aching muscles and joints.
