Lavender Spagyric Tincture

from $39.95

All of our herbal extracts use organically grown and/or ethically wildcrafted herbs and certified organic food-grade ethanol diluted to specific potencies in filtered and/or distilled rainwater, unless otherwise specified.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), the infamous evergreen subshrub of the mint (Lamiaceae) family, has been cultivated throughout the Mediterranean (now globally) for centuries as both a medicinal and aromatic plant. Venerated by Greek, Roman and later European physicians, lavender retained the reputation in its ability to calm the mind whilst simultaneously restoring balance to the digestive, circulatory and reproductive systems. Lavender’s name is associated with the Latin lavare ("to wash"), representing its historical use in bathing, perfumery and the care of body and spirit.

Lavender’s distinctive floral aroma, mildly bitter and aromatic virtues are due to high amounts of volatile oils, particularly linalool and linalyl acetate, together with flavonoids, tannins and phenolic compounds. Modern pharmacological research has explored the effects of Lavandula’s volatile constituents on neurotransmitter activity, whilst traditional Western herbalists have long recognised lavender as one of the foremost nervine relaxants and aromatic restoratives.

Traditionally regarded as cooling, drying and gently stimulating, lavender has been a major player in helping to relieve nervous tension, calm agitation, encourage restful sleep and restore emotional equilibrium. As an aromatic carminative, lavender has potential to ease digestive discomfort associated with stress, including nervous indigestion, abdominal tension, colic and nausea. The fragrant oils have further supported the traditional use in promoting healthy circulation, encouraging perspiration during the early stages of fever, supporting liver and biliary function, and maintaining the health of the skin.
