Spagyrics St John's Wort Spagyric Tincture

St John's Wort Spagyric Tincture

from $39.95

Spagyric tinctures are prepared through an alchemical process that honours the full anatomy of the plant: the spirit, soul, and body. The volatile oils (soul), water & alcohol-soluble components (spirit), and purified mineral salts (body) are individually separated, refined, and then intentionally reunited. The result is a living preparation, not merely an extract, that carries the full life-force and signature intelligence of the plant in an exceptionally bioavailable form.

All of our herbal extracts use organically grown and/or ethically wildcrafted herbs and certified organic food-grade ethanol diluted to specific potencies in filtered and/or distilled rainwater, unless otherwise specified.

St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum), member of the Hypericaceae family, is widely naturalised across the globe and known for its vibrant yellow, five-petaled flowers that traditionally bloom in synchrony with the Summer Solstice. Hypericum’s delicate leaves, marked with tiny translucent oil glands, famously yield a rich crimson pigment upon extraction. While beloved in herbal traditions, Hypericum has also gained notoriety in places like Australia, where it is considered invasive and carefully managed to preserve native ecosystems.

Traditionally, Hypericum has been used to lift states of melancholia, low mood, and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), as well as topically to support the healing of wounds, musculoskeletal injuries, nerve pain, spasms, and viral outbreaks such as herpes simplex.

The name Hypericum comes from the Greek hyperieum, meaning "over an apparition," hinting at an ancient reputation as a guardian herb against malign spirits and misfortune. In keeping with these protective qualities, St. John’s wort has long been woven into Midsummer (Litha) celebrations - fresh sprigs brought into homes for blessing and burned in solstice fires to shield against harm.

The perforated leaves, letting sunlight pass through, reflect its profound doctrine of signatures: a plant that carries the power to draw light into the places where shadow and sorrow linger.
