Spagyrics Catnip Spagyric Tincture

Catnip Spagyric Tincture

from $39.95

Spagyric tinctures are prepared through an alchemical process that honours the full anatomy of the plant: the spirit, soul, and body. The volatile oils (soul), water & alcohol-soluble components (spirit), and purified mineral salts (body) are individually separated, refined, and then intentionally reunited. The result is a living preparation, not merely an extract, that carries the full life-force and signature intelligence of the plant in an exceptionally bioavailable form.

All of our herbal extracts use organically grown and/or ethically wildcrafted herbs and certified organic food-grade ethanol diluted to specific potencies in filtered and/or distilled rainwater, unless otherwise specified.

Catnip (Nepeta cataria) belongs to the mint (Lamiaceae) family therefore possesses significant volatile oil content, incl. nepetelactone (similar to valepotriates of valerian), which is thought to be its main constituent responsible for the altered behaviour in cats, but also a major contributor to its effects in humans.

Considered a relatively pungent and bitter herb with cooling and dry qualities, aiding to its stimulating and relaxing actions on the body tissues, especially those of the gastrointestinal and nervous systems. By these actions, catnip has the ability to dispel wind(tensive)-heat and damp(stagnant)-heat manifesting as congestion, headaches, internalised stress and colic to name a few. Catnip is considered particularly useful in infants and children, especially in nervous and fretful infant or children acting out as over reactive, ‘closed down’/internalising or even mean-spirited.

Catnip poses useful in eruptive fevers in both adults and children, working by relieving tension and opening the pores of the skin to allow the heat to escape. In adults it’s also helpful in incidences of hiatal hernia, menstrual headache, cramps and colic.
